Show 162 - 2008 Highlights (Part 1)
30 Dec 2008 @ 11:30 am

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I'd love you to subscribe !

To see out the auld year and bring in the new, it's time to run through my favourite tracks from each month of 2008. I've decided to split the show up into two parts, meaning it's more easily digestible in this season of overindulgence. Enjoy, and pop back next week for a second helping ! Oh, and Happy New Year when it comes !

The Christmas Show 2008
22 Dec 2008 @ 11:30 am

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I'd love you to subscribe !

It's that most wonderful time of the year once again…. yes, it's the legendary Three From Leith Christmas Special 2008 ! Kicking off, like last year, with another rip-roaring version of Jingle Bells, you're in for 45 minutes of top festive tuneage. Fast stuff, slow stuff, silly stuff, cheesy stuff, quality stuff – more stuffing than you could ram up a farmload of turkeys, in fact. Don your party hat, put down your glass of sherry and prepare to pull yourself another seasonal cracker !

Outspoken – ‘Punk Rock Bells'
Winzenried aka Hollywood Drunks – ‘We Three Kings'
The Hot Toddies – ‘Santa Baby'
Joey Murillo – ‘You Are My Christmas'
Jack Frost & The Christmas Band – ‘The First Noel'
Frisbee – ‘Christmas In My Pocket'
The Morrisons – ‘Sitting In A Trench'
Neil Murray – ‘Merry Merry Christmas'
The Hipcola – ‘Winter Wonderland'
The Moneyshot Cosmonauts – ‘Pink Christmas'
Gentleman Auction House – ‘On The Rooftop'
Mahalia Jackson – ‘Silent Night (46Bliss remix)'

The soundbed was ‘Bluegrass Jingle Bells' by Carl Vasta
Three From Leith theme-tune by Alex Aitken

Show 161 - The Return Of Old Friends
15 Dec 2008 @ 11:30 am

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I'd love you to subscribe !

An unexpected invite out for coffee which then extended into a Chinese meal and an overnight stay at my parents, then an unexpected visit from the plumber and delayed Christmas shopping means that this week's show was rather rushed. Not what I'd planned, but real life can sometimes take precedence over the unpaid weekly job !! Nonetheless, there's some spanky new music from three old friends of TFL – even real life can't spoil that.

Show 159 - Running On The Reserve Tank

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I'd love you to subscribe !

Tired, with nothing much to say and in need of a rest and some ibuprofen for my head at the time of the recording, this week's show settles into an extended period of trip-pop and new-age goodness. I can always tell when the year is drawing to a close and there are only a few more weeks of it left, as a weariness and a need for a break from work and commuting come upon me. This type of music soothes my run-down grey matter, and as the Christmas rush begins to head towards a peak, hopefully it'll help relax you all too.

It's a cold week, but the cockles of the TFL heart were warmed by a jingle, a Joey, some soul and a Frisbee. Have I been drinking or taken a knock to the head, or does this all make sense ? Listen and find out….

Show 157 - Pure Coincidence

In a rare turn of events, this week's show is an all-UK affair. By complete and utter chance, the tracks that I selected as making up a coherent ‘whole' for TFL157 turned out to all come from this sceptered isle. So don your Brit-centric ears and cop a load of this.

Show 156 - Epic One From Leith
10 Nov 2008 @ 11:30 am

Listen here or use the player on the right, though I'd love you to subscribe !

A special ‘One From Leith' this week after a hellish & very, very long week at work with too many late nights stuck at my desk. Not having a chance to prepare a normal show gave me the perfect opportunity to play a track I've been toying with playing since 2005, and which I had only recently discussed with other podcasters. So, prepare for an epic piece from Phideaux and journey with him through the various movements it incorporates. It was the first track I heard from him when I discovered his music way back in 2005, and it's what made me sit up and really take notice of what he was doing. And in other news, I've fixed the ‘vocals from the back of a long tunnel' issue that some people had been experiencing when listening to TFL on various machines…

Two brand new albums from familiar TFL bands feature on this week's show, from Scotland and Sweden. Double tracks from each – I'm spoiling you !! Not only that, but a brand new Edinburgh band for you too. And hear what happens when an accident occurs. How many people will stop and help ? Can you guess ?

The clocks have gone back, the economy's going down the toilet and winter is well and truly on the way. Dark, skint and cold – what a combination ! Never fear though, as TFL continues to bring you excellent new music, FREE, every week. And with this week's artists, you're getting the best on offer from around the world to fill your cash-stapped ears with. TFL – always value for money.
