These young New York musicians have reaped the benefits from doing alot of the elbow work of their own promotion and marketing- ringing record stores in locations they know they're doing to be touring, doing the legwork, to make sure fans can get hold of the music. This fact alone impresses us at Flyposter, but added to this, they've been met with rave reviews and now find themselves supporting Flaming Lips.

We found them warming up at the Barfly, London, where they agreed to perform a rendition of And The Hazy Sea before the gig. A few influences they owned up to: Built To Spill, BedHead, Clinic, Long Winters, M83, Brian Eno, Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards, Guided By Voices, and...Police!

Gill Meets the Emily Haines and James Shaw from Metric. They were hanging around the Electric Ballroom, waiting to set up for a show.

Metric formed in 1998 in New York City. Their first album 'Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?' earnt them a Juno award nomination for Best Alternative Album. If you're playing the album and think they sound familiar but you know know why- 'Monster Hospital', 'Police and the Private' and 'Front Row' were all featured on television show 'Grey's Anatomy' and CSI: Miami.

They currently have a new album out called 'Fantasies'. The band are currently touring the US and Canada at a variety of music festivals. They're playing Washington tonight, Philapelphia and Toronto, returning to London on the 26th June for Hard Rock Calling, and then Glastonbury on the 27th!

After finding out that the likes of Gun 'n roses guitarist Gilby Clarke had helped compose some of the rock sounds, we had to catch the Bronx as they passed through London on their tour promoting the new album Worldwide. The Manchester sounding San Diegons, The Soft Pack, let us probe their minds and film their sound check at the Lexington, whilst gigging in London. Gill gets to grips with their party reputation, their influences from the great Manchester sound, touring with Franz Ferdinand and whether knitting is cool.

At the sound check at the Lexington, Islington, we record stonking renditions of Nightlife and Brightside- played specially for yours truly. 

The band have been together since 2005, formerly The Muslims, members include Matt Lamkin, Matty McLoughin, Dave Lantzerman and Brian Hill. Their influences include Standards, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Falls, The Buzzcocks. The sound coming out of a rocking San Diego music scene, so these guys are in good company with crocodiles, Waves, Kill Me Tomorrow and Nine Marches.
