Episode 4 Loudon Wainwright Special Episode 4 of the weekly Andy Roberts podcast is dedicated to the songs of American singer songwriter and actor Loudon Wainwright.

I've been listening to and playing Loudon Wainwright songs pretty much since I first started playing guitar, some 30 odd years ago – the lyrics are so clever, poignant or funny and the tunes are powerful yet straightforward enough to learn, and in some quantity it turns out. Wondering hpw to mark out tonight's podcast, which is at episode 4 already, I decided to feature my own interpretations of mostly Loudon Wainwright songs and in the end as it turned out, nothing but Loudon Wainwright songs except for a couple of bonus tracks on the live Ustream after the recording had been switched off.

Been a while since there’s been a natural “decades” show, which is where I look back at the shows from 161-169 and bring back the most popular performers for another spin on the TPN Rock player.

Given that I skipped #160 as a decades show as I was still in SXSW recaps and the Eurovision Rocktacular, and #150 was naturally bigger than normal. So almost thirty shows since I could go “weren’t they great… again!”

Podcast Episode 3 – Laid Back Edition Podcast Episode 3 finds me just returned from a relaxing break down in Cornwall, and still feeling pretty mellow, so the atmosphere this week is more laid back than usual. There are two unfinished new songs which found their way into the podcast, and I've always described the live show as having “half finished songs, improvisations etc” which is something I'd like to be able to do more of as the podcast progesses. I feel that some of my most satisfying compositions have been created in the moment and then never repeated, but then again you;d have to wade through a fair amount of inferior material to get to the nuggets so it's a difficult one to pull off on a recorded session.

This Reality Podcast: No 124 Episode 124: 56 minutes running time

Welcome to the UK’s most listened-to independent music and entertainment podcast.

You want to listen to the show? You have 3 options:

  1. You can listen by streaming the show straight from our website: just click here!
  2. Or you can download the show to your computer – or your mobile phone – so you can listen whenever you want, and in the privacy of your own home: just right click here and use the ‘save’ or ‘save as’ option in your browser
  3. Or, if you have iTunes, you can get the show from the iTunes store (free of charge!): just click here and listen to it on your iPod, iPhone, iPad, your computer or other iTunes-compatible music player. Better than radio!

The musical goodness that you can listen to in this week’s show includes:

  1. Hundred Reasons, What You Get (http://www.myspace.com/hundredreasons)
  2. Unsound, August (http://www.myspace.com/thegreenstoneproject)
  3. Ghosts on the Radio, Lovely (http://www.myspace.com/ghostsontheradio)
  4. Grandadbob, Hide Me (http://www.myspace.com/grandadbobmusic)
  5. The Hoodoo Fifties, Push Against The Roles (they put you through) (http://www.myspace.com/hoodoofifties)

Some of the talkie bits we cover this week includes:

  • Soph's quiet week that has yielded lots of food. Yay!
  • Soph catching Bren in bed with a bitch
  • We had two tracks submitted by a female artist who is signed to Sony/RCA. They didn't make it on to our playlist
  • A live phone call to Ian, our ex-pat correspondent who lives in Nebraska that covered such things as: Tornadoes, Barbecue weather, Freedom of speech vs Setting fire to the US flag, National stereotypes, Health & Safety (in a badger-related way), No MOT for vehicles, ‘Lie to Me' and ‘Flashforward'. And love for Norwegian Recycling
  • Bad lawsuits 1: The mayor of a town in Turkey called ‘Batman' is suing Warner Brothers, claiming the makers of The Dark Knight used his city's name without permission.
  • Bad lawsuits 2: German playboy pensioner Rolf Eden (77) tried to sue 19-year-old Katharina Weiss after she refused to sleep with him. His legal action hinged on his argument that she was being ageist.
  • Evidence that the film industry is dead; according to Will Smith's IMDB page, he's currently working on Independence Day 3. And Independence Day 2. And The Karate Kid 2. And I Robot 2. And Hancock 2. And Bad Boys 3. And Men In Black 3. And I Am Legend – The Prequel. Do we need any more evidence?
  • Meeting with Derek Hobbs off of Contraband
  • A bit of a rant about the BBC's ‘cut n paste' solution to Jonathan Ross leaving his BBC radio show and leaving his BBC TV show and replacing him with Graham Norton who, in the past, has not, is not now and never will be any good. Is the BBC stifling creative talent through this series of decisions? Or is this somehow supposed to be a miraculous way of encouraging emerging talent?

How did it happen?
On Friday evening we sat in Studio B in rural Oxfordshire and we listened to four excellent musical tracks that were so good, that we had to share them with you.

This Reality Podcast is an independently-produced, advertising-free, feast of musical goodness and a banquet of all-round entertainment, and all you have to do to enjoy it is to download the show! And it’s free of charge!

Normally we have a phone call slot, if you would like to join us during the show, just let us have your number and we’ll call you. Or you can add ‘thisrealitypodcast’ to your Skype address book.

You want more? Really?

RC 191: Aural pOddities 3 My collage contains elements from Leandroid, superk8nyc, kumar303, and bertwerk via Creative Commons derivative works license off Flickr

Yes after 4 years in the wilderness, the Aural pOddities show is BACK! Aren't you lucky...after the last very POP show this is as unpop as it gets, including the mad, bad, sad, and just plain irritating avant-retard latest in car-crash audio.

You'll feel like you've been in an audio trainwreck and will rush to your Kylie CDs for relief after this, but it's worth reminding yourselves there's a strange world out there, and people make and made music and audio like this...and the stranger sadistic thing, I really enjoy it all :-D

With thanks (blame?) to WFMU's Beware of the Blog, 365 Days Project, Hotrod's Run for Cover, Cool and Strange Music Magazine , Lux and Ivy's Favorites and many more.

Play LOUD to all your enemies!

DarkCompass 425 – I Blame Zombies School of Seven Bells

This week, post Podcrawl analysis, and apathy. Blaming other podcasters for buying great music. Prince, says the net is over – but at least he got his money from trashy newspapers. Driving skills: freaking out onlookers as Zombies escape from crashed car, and blaming carjack for crash, instead of sex whilst driving. RIAA get it badly wrong, spending too much to get so little, the AC/DC burger ready for the Summer, and Guacamole and Salsa is now bad for you.

RC 190: Crimes Against Podcasting - the POP edition POP# in more than one sense - this is the Crimes Against Pop set Kirk and myself played last weekend, mixed in with some of our other choices and the rough (well +20%!) 1 hour set we'd planned. * indicates tracks we played at CAP. POP you can't STOP (107Mb, 112Mins)

Tracklist at the website or in the comments of the MP3, or on an iPod the Lyrics field (press your centre button 4 times).

RANT starts now: # This was a nightmare of a podcast - from a POPping soundcard - now have a shiny Native Instruments Audio 4 DJ which although not POP-less is far better sounding than my old troublesome firewire M-Audio Audiophile....still got nasty digital hum though. I then re-recorded the whole set - only to have my laptop crash and the whole Hi-MD disc to corrupt on final transfer, losing the lot (Sony's stupid DRM and encryption is the reason why; no wonder MD as a format bombed - here is an explanation why by the wonderful Quiet American, who I know from modulator days - hi!) so when I upgrade I'm going solid state memory card recorder I think. Love MiniDisc and it's highly tolerant auto gain recording, hate it's stupid DRM...
